We are primarily interested in understanding the chemical processes of how metalloenzymes have emerged and evolved by the intricate orchestration of inorganic elements with protein environments. Therefore, we discover novel metalloenzymes, distinguish their chemical functions and mechanisms, and design ones for desirable activities for biocatalysis and therapeutics. In addition, we recently expanded our interests to a wide range of proteins having no inorganic cofactor or even synthetic organic polymers for specific applications.
